Back to Essex this week and thankfully I was back in time.

John Gyford, a giant of Essex Labour Party, has died aged 85.

John was elected to Braintree District Council in 1983, representing Witham North Ward continuously for 28 years. He served as leader of the council between 1995 and 2000, and was an Essex County Councillor from 1989 to 2001, representing Witham Southern. He held the post of secretary to the Local Government Association Labour group, and he stood as the parliamentary candidate for the Braintree constituency in the 1979 general election.
