  1. Rebecca Solnit · In the Shadow of Silicon Valley: Losing San Francisco

On San Fransisco, tech billionaires, and Solano County. “…tech is returning us to a kind of feudalism…” “You can’t really be in favour of both democracy and billionaires…”

  8. San Francisco Scapegoated for Silicon Valley’s Civic Blind Spot

Very good point from Peter Merholz: The poor planning (ie, car-centric, sprawling) of Silicon Valley is one reason for the current problems in (more appealingly planned, dense) San Francisco. A good example of the need for regional rather than town planning, I’d guess.

  9. Arresting the Unjustly Homeless while they Learn to Code — Weird Future — Medium

Good stuff, on that well-intentioned but myopic vanity project to help a homeless man to code. Hey, why not use your energy to change the system? Even less chance of success and glory, but if enough of you do it you might just make a sodding difference you. Gah, angry.

How to make the most of living in SF. Wouldn’t that be very lovely? Anyway, I think these could probably be generalised as to how to enjoy any city. (via Kottke)

  14. The Official Star Wars Blog » I Left My Star Destroyer in San Francisco

I saw this linked to everywhere and didn’t watch it. Just more Star Wars stuff. But I finally succumbed and it’s *very* good. I love that the footage is so casual and amateur.

I know it’s been everywhere. But it’s still one of the most beautiful things ever, even if it is an advert.
