  1. 493. South Park, San Francisco.

South Park around 1860 or 1870. One of many great old photos on this University of California site.

  2. Matthew Johnston’s slideshow on Flickr - Liberty City vs New York City

Photos comparing bits of New York with their ‘Grand Theft Auto 4’ counterparts. Amazing and beautiful. Sometimes it’s only the quality of the photos that sets them apart. (via Blackbeltjones)

  3. CR Blog » Blog Archive » The Disappearing World of Soho’s Independent Record Shops

I was on Berwick St the other day, but didn’t go down far enough to see the demolition opposite Somerfield. I so hope they hang on, but then I buy MP3s over CDs whenever I can, so… (via Alan Connor)

  4. Brent Black Panama Hats - Photo Tour: How a Panama Hat is Made

Fascinating multi-page photo essay. Quite a process.

  5. Russell davies: copy and paste

Very nice and easily-created rapid slideshow of a month’s worth of photos. Fab idea.

  6. Lina Scheynius (MS Logan Photographic Agency)

I like this photo and some of her others. I hope it’s this one; stupid, slow, infuriating Flash interface makes it hard to link to stuff. Who commissions this crap (the website, not the photos)?

  7. FlickrSLiDR - Embed Flickr Slideshows within Your Site

Very nice way to include a slideshow of Flickr images in your website.

  8. Bristol Then and Now Photographs - Page One

Lots of animated images with photos of past and (nearly) present Bristol. A shame more of them don’t line up better, but still interesting.

  9. The Adaption to my Generation - A Daily Photo Project ++ c 7 11 23 ++ JK Keller

Self-portrait photos, daily for eight years. Not as hypnotising as Noah Kalina’s SImpsons-parodied one, but more extensive. Best when he grows his hair. (via Kevin Kelly)

  10. Tilt-shift miniature fakes - a photoset on Flickr

Lovely photos of Bristol looking like a teeny tiny toy.

  16. BBC NEWS | In pictures: Life in Stanley, Growing numbers

Nice pictures, although the car is as unrepresentative as if it was a shot of London. Most Falklands motors are Land Rovers or Japanese 4x4s. Nice that they correctly call it Stanley instead of Port Stanley, unlike most media stories.

  17. Old Photos 1968 - a photoset on Flickr

Anything pre-1990s, like Ted’s photos, look twice as old when displayed on the web where everything is new.

  18. Yahoo! Photos - Photos de pvolant - Space Lab

Pierre’s photos from our class in which we had to make a sculpture representing an anodyne Trashcan Sinatras tune.

Sam’s very good and scary Christmas photos.

  20. Flickr: Archive of Strand Building Hackney’s photos posted to Flickr on 16th July 2006

The Strand Building, where I used to live, has finally had its central courtyard remodelled (necessary due to leakage into the garage below). Beautifully done, although the fountain looks odd.

  21. Mallow street skyscraper - a photoset on Flickr

Ridiculously huge skyscraper planned for right next to Old Street roundabout. Only a few days left to get objections in to the planning people. (via Haddock)

  22. Afghanistan 2006 - a photoset on Flickr

Real life Action Man (“with real typing fingers!”) Ben Hammersley is embedded with the troops in Afghanistan and taking some nice pics. Be careful Ben!

  23. Saturday in the Park with Friends Painting Seurat on the Rock River - a photoset on Flickr

Recreating a Seurat painting in real life. Lovely, although the positioning of people in the photo is pretty off. (via Drawn!)

  29. Geograph British Isles - photograph every grid square!

IS this new or have I just not seen it before? “Aims to collect a geographically representative photograph for every square kilometre of the British Isles.” Lovely. Nice Google Earth integration too. (via Tim/twisty)

Gregory Carafelli’s beautifully simple photos of the Delaware River at dawn.

  36. United States Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-21
