    The recorded voice on Sainsbury’s PA, reassuring us that everything is being done to help us shop safely, has the same tone as one convincing us that our future life will be fine in the off-world colonies.

    I think that Parliament should adopt a term other than “expenses” for the money used to pay for running their offices. Newspapers have always lent on the implication the money is used for boozy lunches.
