Remind me to caveat every link I ever post with “I’m aware this single piece probably isn’t the perfect be-all-and-end-all that will satisfy everyone and says everything there is to be said about this really complex subject.”
@dracos Oh yes, that and the letters about the piece are interesting. I don’t imagine he’s 100% right, but it’s good to read something thoughtful, and at odds with much of what’s been written so far. Even if it made me go “Oh, I *don’t* know whose responsibility it was!” it’s worth it.
@AnnieFeighery @jamesbridle I think I changed mine to male (not 100% sure as I haven’t used it in ages) because I roll my eyes at the way all these assistants are female by default. I can’t win :) Ideally I’d like it to sound like, and have the mannerisms of, Jeeves.
I heard that the paperback edition of @jamesbridle’s book ’New Dark Age’ will, in fact, be titled ‘What A Very Rum Business That Is’. twitter.com/BBCParliament/…

@blech Wouldn’t surprise me. It was pretty much an entire issue of the LRB.
And, that’s the first time I’ve looked at it online - it’s nice to see the @LRB using a different template for that extra long piece. It works really nicely.
If you haven’t already, Andrew O’Hagan’s really long piece on Grenfell is worth the time, especially if, like me, you’d unthinkingly accepted the general “the evil council is guilty!” line. lrb.co.uk/v40/n11/andrew… (Also, very sad, obviously, so take it gently.)

Keeping honey bees to save the bees is like keeping chickens to save the birds. They're a managed species and not at risk of extinction. The bees at risk of declines/permanent loss are a variety of wild species. twitter.com/Mantia/status/…
