Overnight

Last night I had a part in a short film that involved shooting overnight. Five things:

  • I thought an overnight shoot (10pm to 4am for me) would be hard enough but the other actor had already spent the day shooting in another film which would be continuing the following afternoon.

  • There are a lot of foxes living on Peckham Rye Park and Common who, in the middle of the night, will not take “no” for an answer if they think you’ve got something to eat.

  • If walking your dog in the dark, off the lead, it is indeed a good idea for it to wear an illuminated collar. Unfortunately it apparently doesn’t help you notice, or deal with, your dog doing a huge crap on the grass near some strangers.

  • There is only a 50% chance that a food delivery order to a south London park at 2am will result in food arriving. (Sample size: two orders.)

  • The bus from Peckham towards central London at 4.20am is packed with people going to work. That Tory leadership candidate who likes doing long walking holidays should do one of his selfie videos on it.
